Wolves have finally confirmed Rob Edwards' replacement at Molineux, after taking the decision to sack the former Middlesbrough manager last week.

Edwards left the Riverside just a few months into last season, after taking over from Michael Carrick 12 months ago. Boro fans were furious at his exit, although he was then unable to keep Wolves in the top flight.

He was widely expected to lead their promotion charge this coming season, but Wolves took to the decision to part company with the 43-year-old earlier this month, just days after they signed Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.

Now they have confirmed Cesar Peixoto as their new boss, with the Portuguese manager leaving Gil Vicente.

"I'm proud to be here at this big, historic club in England," he said. "It's a big opportunity for me and I'm prepared to do everything to put Wolves where it belongs in the Premier League.

"We have great players, but I think the team can improve a lot with me and I can improve as a technical head coach. I want to put my identity onto the team, build a strong identity at the club and also help the team to grow by showing my identity and my way of playing.

"This is an amazing club, and it is important for me to make Wolves play in a way which reflects the fans. It's a hard-working city with a lot of energy and a lot of passion, and I want them to see a team which plays an offensive game, with good organisation and a team who play for the fans."

Baggies land Liverpool youngster

West Bromwich Albion are set to sign young Liverpool defender Carter Pinnington. The 19-year-old will move to the Hawthorns on a free transfer, according to the Mail, with future clauses built into the deal.

Pinngton plays as a centre-back and had attracted attention from Crystal Palace, but has opted to join former Boro star James Morrison at West Brom. The Baggies have also been linked with a move for Chelsea youngster Jimmy Jay Morgan.

Lions pounce

Millwall are ready to offer £5m for Hull City striker Kyle Joseph. Alex Neil's side, who lost to Hull in the play-off semi-finals, are said to be interested in adding Joseph to their ranks to boost their goalscoring options.

The Lions already have ex-Boro star Josh Coburn, but could add 24-year-old Joseph to their squad with his future at the MKM Stadium far from certain.

Stansfield pricetag

Birmingham City will demand £25m for striker Jay Stansfield as a host of Premier League side weigh up a move for the England Under-21 international.

Stansfield hit 10 goals for the Blues last season, and has attracted interest from sides including Sunderland and Everton. Birmingham paid a £15m to take him from Fulham two years ago.

Mowbray's transfer talk

Middlesbrough favourite Tony Mowbray has had a busy first few days back in charge of Blackburn Rovers. The former Boro player and manager returned to Ewood Park to replace Michael O'Neill and has already had to deal with plenty of transfer talk.

"It's been busy, the phone rings a lot more when you're in work than when you're not in work," he told RoversTV. "A lot of agents have been in touch, everyone wants to help. I've had players thrown at me and there is a lot to think about and work on."
