Huge Darwin Nunez return claim from Uruguayan source – Latest Liverpool FC News

A shock return claim has emerged from a Uruguayan source regarding Darwin Nunez‘s future and a potential return to Liverpool.

Uruguayan source claims Darwin Nunez will sign for Liverpool

Journalist Martin Charquero has relayed information from a fellow Uruguayan reporter, Juan Pablo Romero, claiming Nunez will sign for Liverpool this summer.

“Darwin Nunez returns to Liverpool,” he wrote on X.

“The confirmation will not be given in these days since the player asked to be focused with the Uruguayan national team.”

It’s worth stressing that we’re taking this one with a pinch of salt, given Nunez was sold a year ago because he simply wasn’t playing well enough.

It is interesting, though, that this news is coming from a writer currently covering Uruguay closely at the World Cup.

Should Nunez be asked about the rumours in the coming weeks at the World Cup, his reaction could give us a clue about the reliability of these claims.

He next plays for Uruguay at 11pm (BST), against Saudi Arabia, on Monday, June 15.

Adam Beattie has assessed where Alexis Mac Allister now stands after a poor season at Liverpool:

“Put simply, Liverpool can’t just sell every player deemed responsible for the downfall of 2025/26 – though many of us would have liked to see them try at various points!

“That said, the version of Mac Allister we have watched in more recent times looks far enough removed from what Liverpool will need after the summer to raise genuine questions over his future.

“The Reds have enough to do in the market without the inevitable outgoings, and they cannot afford to go into 2026/27 as light on trusted options as they did a year ago.”
