The summer transfer window has officially opened and Manchester United are expected to be busy over the next few months.
The Red Devils finished third following an impressive second half of their Premier League campaign under Michael Carrick and comfortably qualified for Champions League football after finishing 15th in the table just 12 months earlier.
After confirming that Carrick will lead United into their next campaign as the permanent manager on a two-year deal, the club can now prioritise recruiting the right profiles of player to maintain their progress and start competing for silverware again.
What are Manchester United’s transfer plans?
It has been heavily reported that the Manchester giants are keen to refresh the centre of the pitch this summer and have already taken steps to kick-start their midfield rebuild.
Earlier this month, United agreed a deal with Atalanta to sign £38m star Ederson, who is set to sign a contract until 2030 with the option to extend for a further year.
With Casemiro’s departure confirmed, their new Brazilian midfielder is expected to be joined by another midfield signing before the window closes.
Elsewhere, Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford’s potential exits open the door for a new attacking signing, and there is one Premier League player who is being reported as a potential target.
According to The Daily Mail, Man United are one of the clubs interested in signing Everton star Iliman Ndiaye.
The publication claims that the Blues want at least £50m for their attacking sensation, but that fee could increase if he enjoys a strong tournament at the World Cup with Senegal.
It is further noted that United will be rivalled by Manchester City and Arsenal for his signature, as Premier League giants circle following a fantastic season for Ndiaye.
Should Man United sign Iliman Ndiaye?
There is no doubt that Ndiaye possesses the experience and talent to be a real asset to Man United in their ambitions to return to competing at the highest level both domestically and on the European stage.
The Red Devils have made huge strides in rebuilding their attack with the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha last summer, and will want to ensure they have enough depth and versatility in the squad to continue competing on multiple fronts.
Across 34 appearances for Everton this season, the 26-year-old – once dubbed a “shining light” by BBC pundit Troy Deeney – scored six goals and registered three assists.
With a higher-quality attacking set-up around him, there is no reason why he could not significantly improve those contributions at United.
His versatility could play a huge role in making him a valuable addition, as he is capable of playing on either wing as well as in an attacking midfield role.
Combined with his Premier League experience, those qualities make him an attractive option for any club looking to strengthen its attacking depth.
