Manchester United have "opened the door" for Marcus Rashford to return to the club this summer, as doubts persist over the forward's future this summer, claims a report from AS.
The 28-year-old hasn't been in the Red Devils' plans for the past season-and-a-half, as a falling out with former coach Ruben Amorim led to the England international joining Aston Villa on loan for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.
A short, but successful, stint at Villa Park eventually saw Rashford earn a move to Barcelona on loan for the season, which included a permanent deal option in the range of £26 million.
After showing plenty of signs of quality in his spell with the Blaugrana, doubts crept in over whether the clause would be triggered, as Anthony Gordon signed for Barcelona early in the summer transfer window.
That has left the clause to expire beyond the deadline set for June 15, creating some uncertainty over where the star could move next.
However, it seems as though a place back in the Man United team could well be on the cards.

According to the report from AS, Man United have opened a path for Rashford to return to the first-team fold, amid doubts over his future.
The report claims that Michael Carrick is keen to get the 28-year-old back in the mix at Old Trafford, and has even spoken to the star about that possibility.
It's unclear whether that will change Rashford's own stance, as he has seemingly leaned further towards re-joining Barcelona, with other reports claiming that he is willing to take a pay cut to join the Blaugrana.
AS claim that Barcelona have not ruled out the possibility of making a move for the versatile star again, but that it currently remains unlikely to happen.
Bayern Munich have been one of a host of other clubs to be linked with Rashford, but his wages remain a significant stumbling block for the interested parties.
That may end up meaning a stay at Man United is inevitable, and with Carrick already floating that idea to Rashford, it could be the start of him being a star at Old Trafford once again.

Michael Carrick Is Perfect For Rashford Return
Manchester United Manager Michael Carrick
Rashford's exit from Man United came about during Amorim's rein, one that wasn't exactly the best for the Portuguese head coach.
It appeared as though the manager struggled to get players to buy into his ideas, which included the England international, who has since moved on to show how good he can be in different environments.
With Amorim moving on and Carrick taking his place, Rashford may return to an idea environment for him to thrive in once again.
The new head coach has shown he has an even temperament, making it unlikely that he will annoy players with his man management technique.

Carrick is willing to give some freedom to get the best out of his players in the forward areas, which would suit Rashford playing on the left flank.
Add to that a squad capable of challenging for places and the return of Champions League football, and it could be a return for the 28-year-old that would work for all parties.
It remains to be seen whether that ship has sailed, but a return would certainly bolster the ranks moving forward.
