Are Arsenal going to sign another defender this summer?

But every year, the Gunners keep being linked with new defensive options, so what’s on the cards this window?

Goalkeeper is pretty straightforward, with David Raya elevating himself to become one of the best in the world since his move to Arsenal 2023, now with three straight golden gloves, just one off the most in league history.

His shot-stopping went up a level last campaign and his distribution remains integral to Arsenal’s build-up.

The potential move in goal is Kepa Arrizabalaga, who reportedly will be allowed to leave for the same £5 million fee he joined for. Kepa did a solid job last season, but whoever is backup keeper will hopefully play minimal games anyway, so shouldn’t be too much of a task for the transfer team.

At fullback, the Gunners appear to have fended off Real Madrid’s interest in Riccardo Calafiori after a brilliant season, with the marauding fullback becoming a staple down the left.

Pierro Hincapié’s loan move will be made permanent after a good debut season while Myles Lewis-Skelly will likely see more minutes in midfield if he stays at the club.

On the other side, Jurrien Timber missing the World Cup is a blessing in disguise for Arsenal, giving the Dutchman time to fully recover from a groin injury that kept him out for the final few months.

While Ben White’s future is up for debate due to his struggles with injury and gametime, being one of the more likely areas for Arsenal to make a move.

William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães are going nowhere, Christhian Mosquera had a good first season backing them up, so no major change is expected at centre back.

With the defence being the bedrock of Arsenal’s success, there’s no need to make too many drastic moves to improve.

A few fresh faces around the edges and Arteta will be able to replicate the defensive solidity that his side has become known for.
