Liverpool needed to make some big changes ahead of next season after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign, and they are in the process of doing exactly that.
Liverpool looked set to stick with manager Arne Slot going into 2026-27, according to briefs out of the club around the end of the season, but it was announced less than a week after the full-time whistle of the final game against Brentford that the Dutchman had been dismissed.
The Reds quickly brought in Andoni Iraola as the 47-year-old's replacement following an outstanding spell in charge of Bournemouth, whom he led to Europa League football as they finished one spot behind the Merseysiders in the standings.
As well as Slot, Liverpool are also losing three experienced and senior members of the Anfield dressing room in Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate, which could easily lead to a dynamic change behind the scenes given the trio were strong voices.
Now they have Iraola and know who is leaving, FSG and Richard Hughes must start to identify and work on the new signings they want to add to the Spaniard's squad to give him the best chance of competing strongly in the Premier League and the Champions League next term.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Liverpool have been making progress on the player side of a deal to sign Yan Diomande, the winger they have chosen as their first-choice replacement for Salah.
Reds chiefs now believe that the 19-year-old would like to join them, even though there is rival interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester United had also shown interest in the Ivory Coast international, but their preference to use him on the left is not what the player wants, as he is keen to play from the right-hand side.
Now, according to Fussbal Daten, Liverpool are 'close to completing' a deal to sign Diomande from RB Leipzig.
The report says that the club has been in almost constant contact with the teenager's representatives in recent months, and are ready to offer him an 'astronomical' salary to convince him to move to Anfield.
The price will be interesting to see, given the report adds that Leipzig now want a deal worth up to £130m for their star man.

According to the co-founder of the 'Born Red' YouTube channel, Diomande is already showing that he can be a Sadio Mane regen for Liverpool.
The Senegal international moved to Anfield following an impressive spell in the Premier League with Southampton, but he went on to become a top, world-class star on Merseyside.
Mane departed Liverpool in 2022 having scored 120 goals in 269 outings for the club, and he became renowned for his pace, trickery, finishing ability and his defensive work-rate during his time under Jurgen Klopp.
Those are all traits being shown by Diomande in the early years of his career, with the 2025-26 campaign being his breakthrough one at the German club.
However, the teenager also announced himself on the world stage in spectacular fashion as he produced a man-of-the-match performance in his nation's 1-0 win against Ecuador on Sunday night in their opening World Cup group game.
Diomande detroyed the likes of Piero Hincapie and Moises Caicedo throughout, and looks to have a huge future ahead of him.
Liverpool will now be hoping they can successfully land their next Mane.
