Man Utd Make Decision On Whether They Will Hijack PL Rival’s£34.5M Move For Spanish International

Man Utd have “not followed up” on initial enquiries for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, according to reports.

Newcastle have been heavily linked with signing the Spanish international for £34.5m, but both the Red Devils and Liverpool were said to have registered an interest too

However, the Daily Mail claim that the Magpies are the only team currently looking to “step up negotiations” and make a bid for Munoz.

The 22-year-old is a right-footed left winger, so he is the right profile for what Director of Football Jason Wilcox is looking for, but it looks like they are favouring moves for other targets.

Who could be pursued instead of Munoz?

Several wingers have been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford over the past few weeks, including Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Toure, Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye.

In an ideal world, though, it is believed that both Wilcox and manager Michael Carrick would prefer to recruit Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.

Wilcox and Carrick have worked with the England international before, but there is an acknowledgement that a deal will be difficult for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, there is a lot of competition for Rogers, with Arsenal and Chelsea among his suitors. Secondly, the transfer fee could price out United.

Man Utd have dedicated most of their funds to other positions

Heading into the summer, it was reported that Wilcox and Carrick wanted (at least) two midfielders, a left back and a forward of some description (preferably left-sided).

A new winger is definitely the lowest priority, so a lot still hinges on how much of the transfer budget is eaten up by other signings.

The interest in Munoz does make sense as he was available for a relatively low price (compared to other forwards), but it appears the Red Devils won’t stand in Newcastle’s way to complete the deal.
