**Ivory Coast head coach Emerse Fae says he is not sure who is the favourite to sign Liverpool target Yan Diomande this summer.**
The Reds and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly [**going head to head**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-transfer-news-yan-diomande-14/) to sign the 19-year-old, having spoken to his representatives, but Fae has made it clear he is not involved in transfer talks:
“When we were in France, during the preparation, journalists told me he was about to sign with PSG. Here, they tell me he’s about to sign with Liverpool!”
“I don’t know, but for now, he will focus on the World Cup, and then afterwards, he can think about the rest of his career.”
Diomande impressed on his World Cup debut
-----------------------------------------
The teenager made his first appearance at the World Cup during the 1-0 win over Ecuador on Sunday. He started on the right flank and skinned Arsenal’s Piero Hincapie on several occasions.
There is no doubt that Diomande’s strength is his pace, which is an attribute that Liverpool are seriously lacking, especially in wide areas.
Liverpool will be mulling over the cost
---------------------------------------
While PSG’s interest is a problem for the Reds, the biggest obstacle remains RB Leipzig’s valuation, which currently stands at a mammoth €130m (£112m).
That figure is unlikely to drop, especially if Diomande continues to make a good impression at the World Cup, and the Merseysiders will have to decide whether signing him is worth the outlay.
The Ivorian international has only been playing professional football since March last year, and while he did have a very impressive season for Leipzig in the Bundesliga, it is only a very small sample size of games.
Any which way you look at it, signing Diomande for a nine-figure sum would be a massive gamble, and it is up to sporting director Richard Hughes and other decision makers to determine whether it is a risk worth taking.
