Thousands of fake football kits seized from property in Altrincham

The counterfeit shirts, shorts, and socks, bearing unofficial branding for clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool, were confiscated from a property in Altrincham.

The kits also included replica England gear and older season designs.

The haul was recovered by Merseyside Police officers, and it was then passed on to Trafford Council’s Trading Standards team.

The council staged an ‘early forfeiture’, a legal seizure and sometimes destruction of goods considered counterfeit or dangerous.

Manchester Magistrates’ Court granted the order on April 2.

The kit had been stored for several months before the hearing.

No one came forward to claim the items, despite the council contacting the address where they were found.

Councillor Keleigh Glenton, executive member for community safety and civil contingencies at Trafford Council, said: “We are pleased to have removed these counterfeit items from potential sale in Trafford and beyond and our thanks go to our partners at Merseyside Police and Manchester Magistrates Court for working with the Council to take this fake kit out of circulation.

“Our Trading Standards team works hard to protect the public, who may unwittingly end up with inferior goods, as well as the legitimate brands, manufacturers and retailers, who follow trading rules and uphold standards at each stage in the supply chain.”

Anyone attempting to reclaim the goods could have faced prosecution from Trafford Council under counterfeit goods offences.
