Ornstein: Man Utd eyeing a move for £50m star after ‘superb’ WC goal

Manchester United are reportedly interested in West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, who enjoyed a memorable World Cup debut on Sunday.

The Red Devils have prioritised their midfield revamp this summer, but they’re also working on other departments.

In recent months, Michael Carrick admitted his squad could do with an additional right-footed left winger, adding further options for the role currently occupied by Matheus Cunha, with the left-footed Patrick Dorgu acting as an additional option.

Man Utd tracking West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville

In The Athletic’s weekly Transfer DealSheet, David Ornstein focused on Summerville, identifying him as the ‘one to watch’.

The 24-year-old is a Feyenoord youth product who has been developing his game in England since joining Leeds United in 2020.

In 2024, the Dutchman completed a £25 million switch to West Ham. This season, he was one of the club’s few bright spots, but his contributions weren’t enough to prevent the Hammers from suffering relegation.

Despite the East Londoners’ struggles, Summerville remains an attractive profile, especially after scoring a ‘superb’ goal in the Netherlands’ opening World Cup fixture against Japan, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Ornstein reveals that Man Utd enquired about the winger who should cost them a figure in the region of £50 million.

The source believes this operation hinges on Marcus Rashford’s fate. The Englishman could return to Carrington after the World Cup, as Barcelona opted against triggering their option to buy him for £26 million.

Nevertheless, United are still hoping to cash in on the 28-year-old. Any funds collected from Rashford’s sale can be reinvested in Summerville.
