Liverpool is NOT planning for Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez to be at the club next season, despite ongoing speculation over the pair’s futures.

Salah confirmed his exit from Anfield earlier this year before playing his final game for the club last month, having reached an agreement for the final year of his contract to be waived. Nunez, meanwhile, left Liverpool last summer after three years, making the move to Saudi Arabia in the process.

Recent rumors though have suggested both could yet be Liverpool players again next season, with both set to be on the lookout for new clubs this summer.

Salah’s Egypt teammate Ahmed El-Shenawy has suggested that the winger could yet make a U-turn on his Anfield exit, having told ON Time Sports that “he could still stay with the team” after discussing his future ahead of the World Cup.

Speculation has been growing over Nunez’s future, meanwhile, with the striker looking likely to be on the move after being dropped by Al-Hilal for the second half of the 2025/26 season. Reports have indicated that the 26-year-old’s contract could be terminated, which would see him become available for a free transfer.

That has led to supporters calling for him to make the move back to Liverpool, with claims coming from Uruguayan reporters on Monday that Nunez will be returning to Anfield this summer.

Those claims were quickly downplayed, and according to The Athletic, neither Nunez nor Salah are being eyed up for Liverpool next season.

Senior sources at the club are said to have insisted that a return for the former is not on the cards, while there is “no chance” of a U-turn being made on Salah’s exit.

It’s reported that all parties “felt it was the right time to go their separate ways”, with Salah having initiated the talks that eventually resulted in his departure being agreed. Despite Arne Slot having since been fired, and Andoni Iraola being confirmed as his replacement, Liverpool is focusing on replacing Salah rather than trying to convince him to stay.

As for Salah, there is no indication yet as to what his next move will be, with his agent having downplayed speculation over his future.

“Mohamed is doing perfectly fine and neither he nor I prefer to discuss sensitive future plans with people not involved in them,” Ramy Abbas Issa posted on social media.

“Both he and I are very private about these things. Yes, people may ask and they may get a standard polite response but that’s about it.”
