Donald Trump’s appearances at the FIFA World Cup have received a mixed reception, and it looks as if he’s set to cause even more controversy.
Back in the summer of 2025, attending the FIFA Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, Donald Trump watched Chelsea secure a dominant 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
However, the real drama unfolded during the post-match ceremony. Instead of exiting the stage after presenting the prize, Trump broke traditional protocol and remained directly on the podium. As Chelsea captain Reece James held the silverware aloft, Trump stood front and center, met by a chorus of boos.
The bizarre moment left players bewildered; Cole Palmer was caught on camera looking entirely confused by the president’s appearance in the team photo.

Donald Trump to lift the World Cup trophy
According to Ben Jacobs, Donald Trump will be allowed to lift the World Cup trophy with the winning team, as he did at the Club World Cup.
Trump will present the 2026 champions with the trophy on July 19 at MetLife Stadium alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
It was Marc Cucurella who found the whole thing hilarious when Trump appeared for the Club World Cup ceremony, though one player wouldn’t let his teammate get a photo with the president.
Who would you rather see at left-back next season, Jorrel Hato or Lewis Hall?
