Jurgen Klopp met a familiar face during the FIFA World Cup celebrations this week. The former Liverpool manager shared a selfie with Virgil van Dijk and fans were blown away by the impromptu reunion. Klopp recently began his new role as a pundit at the World Cup for German outlet Magenta TV.
Fans went crazy when Klopp seemed to cross paths with the Liverpool defender in the USA. The 59-year-old shared a selfie with van Dijk as he added the caption: "Look who I met...[heart eyes emoji]."
Liverpool fans were thrilled with the reunion, as many took to the comments on social media to share their excitement after seeing the two legends back together.
One fan said: "We miss you together guys" while another said: "WHAT A LEGENDS!!!!"
A third said: "Take me back to 2019" and a fourth said: "I'm sticking that in a frame! Also, Happy Birthday Jürgen. Have the best of days. Love you."
A fifth said: "This makes me smile."
Klopp is celebrating his 59th birthday over in the USA today. The German football manager has taken on a new role as a pundit for the 2026 World Cup, which is being staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Klopp revealed his role with German broadcaster Magenta TV on social media at the end of last year. He teased supporters with a post that hinted at a return to management.
Writing on Instagram in November 2025, the former Reds manager said: "Grass underfoot, stadium atmosphere, very close! Back to the sideline, I'm looking forward to it!"
In the accompanying video, he added: "Many of you have always known better. But I truly couldn't envision it for myself. Going back to the sideline? I don't miss anything. This is what I always thought. But now it is tingling again.
"Grass underneath my feet. The heated atmosphere in the stadium. And I want to be really close again."
Confirming his punditry role, Klopp said: "Oh? No, not as a manager. I am becoming a pundit for Magenta TV at the FIFA World Cup 2026."
He has kept his followers updated on what he has been up to overseas. He has shared some photos from the sidelines to his 5m followers on Instagram, as well as updates as he travels around the USA.
