72.6% Of Fans Think This Man Utd Star Would Have Been Player Of The Year If It Wasn’t For Bruno Fernandes

Man Utd fans have overwhelmingly voted for goalkeeper Senne Lammens in a poll conducted by Man U News to determine the club’s player of the year if captain Bruno Fernandes was not in the running.

The Portuguese international had an incredible campaign and would have clearly won any vote if he was included.

So, we decided at Man U News to look at the alternatives and see who would come out on top.

Nearly three-quarters of supporters (72.6%) voted for Lammens, with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Bryan Mbeumo, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw trailing the Belgian by some distance. You can see the full results below:

The stats alone show why Lammens is so well thought of

The 23-year-old led the way on Opta’s goal-prevented figures last season. The stat compares xG conceded to their actual goals conceded.

Lammens is superior to every other Premier League goalkeeper, including Manchester City’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, on this metric.

It demonstrated that, in addition to his ability to command his box, he is an outstanding shot-stopper.

He has proven his doubters wrong at Man Utd

Many were sceptical about Lammens’ ability to take on the gloves following his move from Royal Antwerp last summer. The Red Devils were also interested in Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, but the decision was made to go after a much younger keeper.

Being in goal for a club the size of Manchester United comes with its own pressures, and the fact that he had never played in the Premier League before meant some questioned whether he had both the temperament and the talent to hold down the position.

However, Lammens has passed every test with flying colours, and at 23 years of age, there is now a good chance that he could become the club’s number one for the next decade or more.
