Mo Salah U-turn: Where Liverpool stand on sensational re-signing claims

Liverpool are not expected to consider a new deal for Mo Salah just weeks after he left the club, despite suggestions from Egypt that he could still re-sign.

Salah’s close friend and Egypt team-mate Ahmed El Shenawy told ON Sport last week that “nobody knows” his next club and “maybe things could still change and he could stay.”

That only increased scrutiny over the 34-year-old’s future with it previously claimed a renewed deal with Liverpool could be on the cards.

But despite a change in the dugout with Arne Slot – whose relationship with Salah broke down – replaced by Andoni Iraola, there is “no chance” a new contract will be offered.

The Athletic‘s James Pearce reports that “all parties felt that it was the right time to go their separate ways” and “the appointment of Iraola changes nothing.”

What are Liverpool’s plans instead of re-signing Salah?

Liverpool are instead “focused on filling the Salah void this summer,” with RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande the leading target.

There was more than a hint of romanticism behind hopes of the No. 11 shirt being filled again, as is seemingly the case with claims Darwin Nunez could return to Anfield.

Instead there is a drive to build a new generation and Liverpool are set to sign “at least two” new attackers this window.

Beyond Diomande, there is interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, while the likes of Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Toure, Brighton‘s Yankuba Minteh, Juventus’ Francisco Conceicao and Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche have been linked.

Who will Mo Salah sign for and when will he announce his next club?

Salah, meanwhile, is now likely to announce his next club after the World Cup, with Egypt kicking off Group G with a 1-1 draw against Belgium on Monday evening.

Turkish club Fenerbahce are claimed to have held positive talks with the forward including a proposed contract worth £500,000 a week.

Meanwhile there is widely reported interest from MLS and the Saudi Pro League, and it is almost certain that clubs across Europe are considering moves for one of the world’s best attackers.
