Curtis Jones is an active target for Inter Milan this summer and reports in Italy claim the Serie A side have now made their first official offer to Liverpool.
Jones will enter the final year of his contract next month and is considering a move away from his boyhood club.
Despite Andoni Iraola‘s appointment wiping the slate clean for every player, the midfielder has discussed a move to Italy with team-mate Federico Chiesa.
That comes with Inter Milan hoping to strike a deal for the 25-year-old, with La Gazzetta dello Sport now reporting their first offer.
It is claimed that their bid is worth €20 million (£17.3m), which falls short of Liverpool’s valuation of £35 million per the Times‘ Paul Joyce.
Inter want to ‘avoid any competition’ for Jones

However, while there is a distance between the two clubs in negotiations, La Gazzetta report that Inter are “stepping up their game.”
They are said to be “ready to relaunch their deal” and avoid the same failure they experienced in January when attempting to sign Jones in a loan-to-buy agreement.
Sources in Italy suggest Liverpool’s asking price is €30 million (£25.9m), which is considerably lower than that relayed by Joyce a month ago.
But either way, any second offer would need to be increased significantly in order to persuade the Anfield decision-makers to part ways with their No. 17.
Crucially, Inter are eager to “avoid any type of competition” for Jones’ signature which only increases the pressure on securing a deal in a timely manner.
Tottenham are already credited with an interest in the Scouser, but The Athletic‘s David Ornstein is among those to report that Newcastle‘s Sandro Tonali has now held “positive talks” over joining Roberto de Zerbi’s side.

Earlier this month, Ornstein’s colleague James Pearce claimed that Liverpool “do not want to lose” Jones and that they would only “reluctantly sanction a sale if he asks for a move and a suitable offer is on the table.”
That does open up the possibility of him earning a long-term future under Iraola, who is set to welcome him back to the AXA Training Centre as one of the first players in for pre-season.
Jones was not called up to the England squad for this summer’s World Cup and is therefore spending time away with his family before resuming work.
Liverpool are set to begin pre-season training in early July before their trip to the United States for a three-stop tour, including friendlies against Sunderland, Wrexham and Leeds.
