Man Utd get green light to make opening offer for £70m Madrid ace after Mourinho confirms he’s not ‘untouchable’

Jose Mourinho has reportedly made it clear behind the scenes that Aurelien Tchouameni is not considered ‘untouchable’ this summer.

The Real Madrid star has been at the centre of growing transfer speculation as he prepares to enter the penultimate season of his contract.

Aurelien Tchouameni is on INEOS’ shortlist

Should he be made available, Manchester United are likely to be at the front of the queue.

They have been admirers of Tchouameni since he first began making a name for himself at AS Monaco, with his two-year spell at the club making him one of the most coveted midfielders in world football.

In 2022, he rebuffed interest from a host of suitors, including the Red Devils and Liverpool, to sign for Real Madrid.

His decision undoubtedly paid off, as the 26-year-old has since added a Champions League winners’ medal and a La Liga winners’ medal to his list of accolades – amongst plenty more silverware.

Why is Tchouameni being linked with a move away from Madrid?

Now, however, the European goliaths are navigating uncharted territory after overseeing back-to-back trophyless campaigns.

They have taken the decision to call upon ex-manager and veteran Mourinho to steady the ship at the Santiago Bernabeu, and a squad overhaul is anticipated in the coming months.

Los Blancos have already finalised deals for Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate, meaning attention will soon switch to outgoings – and Tchouameni may be among the departees.

United have time to mull over Tchouameni swoop

The player’s full focus is currently on the World Cup, with France preparing to kick off their group-stage campaign against Senegal tonight.

Once his international commitments are wrapped up, Tchouameni will have to consider where his future lies, and whether he would relish the opportunity to be Casemiro’s long-term successor at Old Trafford.

He is valued at £70 million by Madrid, which is a pretty reasonable price tag for such an experienced and proven midfielder.
