A surprise player has emerged recently as to who will end up as England top scorer at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer, betting data has revealed. Harry Kane has been backed heavily in the build up to the event and is earmarked as one of the favourites to secure a second Golden Boot too.
However, a new - and rather surprising - candidate has emerged amongst the punters to the point this player has been backed more than Kane - who has netted 61 times in all competitions last season. That player is current Man United winger Marcus Rashford. The bookies have him priced at 16/1 with Ladbrokes while Kane is the firm favourite at 4/7 with Sky Bet and Paddy Power to finish as top scorer for the Three Lions.
In the last week, ahead of the Group L opener, Rashford has received 36% of the bets placed on who will end the tournament as England's top goalscorer while Harry Kane follows at 25%. It is certainly a change in attitude amongst the punters in the betting world and may have seen something many have not - especially after the Man United winger was ditched by Barcelona in favour of compatriot Anthony Gordon.

England’s World Cup 2026 campaign begins against Croatia at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, with Thomas Tuchel’s side looking to end decades of senior tournament frustration.
The Three Lions cruised through qualifying with eight wins and eight clean sheets, but their build-up raised some doubts after draws with Uruguay and Japan and a shock defeat to the latter. A more settled XI did, however, beat Costa Rica comfortably in their final warm-up, and England have lost just one of their last eight World Cup openers.
Croatia also arrive with pedigree, having won medals at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, but they are looking to bounce back from a poor Euro 2024 where they exited in the group stage without a win. They topped their qualifying group too, dropping only two points, though mixed friendly results included defeats to Brazil and Belgium before a late win over Slovenia.
