Manchester United are expected to strengthen their midfield options this summer following Casemiro’s impending departure at the end of the month.

The club are also preparing for a significantly busier schedule after securing a return to the Champions League.

The Reds have already reached an agreement with Atalanta for Ederson.

Reports have also regularly suggested they are favourites to land West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Now, another player linked with a move to Old Trafford appears to have attracted fresh interest elsewhere.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United are weighing up a move for a £20 million-rated midfielder who has also been on Manchester United’s radar in recent months.

The report states Leeds are considering an approach as they look to strengthen ahead of the new season.

The player fits the club’s preference for younger talent capable of making an immediate impact.

Manchester United have reportedly monitored the midfielder’s progress.

Sporting director Jason Wilcox is understood to be familiar with him from previous work at Manchester City.

The player in question is Shea Charles, who currently represents Southampton and is regarded as one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in British football.

Charles has also impressed on the international stage with Northern Ireland.

Following a recent performance against France, national team manager Michael O’Neill suggested the midfielder had shown he is ready to perform at the highest level.

While United’s primary midfield focus currently appears to be centred around Ederson and Fernandes, the club have continued to assess a number of alternative options as they plan for the 2026/27 campaign.

Leeds’ interest could complicate any potential move, particularly if Charles becomes available this summer.

The Daily Mail add that clubs from overseas are also keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old following his recent displays.

Whether Manchester United decide to formalise their interest remains to be seen, but Charles is the latest midfielder to emerge as a possible option as the club continue their summer rebuild.
