Liverpool ‘could’ revisit defender interest & Inter bid for Jones – Latest LFC News

Liverpool ‘could’ move for an experienced central defender this summer and Inter Milan have reportedly submitted an offer for Curtis Jones.

Liverpool ‘could’ eye experienced centre-back

Ibrahima Konate‘s move to Real Madrid has left Liverpool short at centre-back, even though Jeremy Jacquet is arriving from Rennes.

There is a lack of experience in that area, and according to Sky Sports, the Reds may look to bring in a proven option.

While a centre-back with years behind him isn’t a “priority” for Liverpool, they could revisit the situation late in the summer.

It is stated that a signing in the mould of Joe Gomez, who can play centrally and at right-back, would “solve a lot” of their defensive issues.

An experienced new defender certainly wouldn’t go amiss for Liverpool, even though Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are exciting young players.

Signing someone who can rotate with them and be an able partner for Virgil van Dijk would be a shrewd move.

Peter Bolster has written a great piece on Andoni Iraola and bringing Liverpool’s soul back after a dreadful season:

“Iraola is not just offering tactics; he is offering stewardship. He sees Liverpool not as a brand but as a “special club” where ‘people think about [the club] even during the week.’

“These ideas should sound familiar to Liverpool supporters. The club’s greatest periods have never been built solely on tactics or recruitment but on a shared understanding of what Liverpool Football Club is supposed to represent.

“Shankly’s holy trinity worked because players, supporters and manager all felt accountable to one another.

“Iraola arrives from a football culture that places similar value on belonging, stewardship and collective responsibility.”
