Amorim appointed AC Milan head coach

Former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been appointed AC Milan head coach on Tuesday.

The Serie A side are looking to rebuild after sacking Massimiliano Allegri following a fifth-place finish in the league. This meant that they missed out on Champions League qualification for the coming season.

"There are ambitions that stay with you throughout your career, and coaching AC Milan has always been one of mine," Amorim said in a statement.

"I know exactly what this club means: history, prestige and an extraordinary fanbase around the world. It is a challenge I embrace with pride and enthusiasm, fully aware of what these colors represent. I can't wait to get started and to experience every day the passion that drives AC Milan."

Amorim was dismissed from Manchester United in January following 14 months in charge. He replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024 but struggled to make an impact on the club.

Previously, he had managed at Sporting Lisbon where he helped end the club's 19-year wait for a title in 2020-21. They went on to win it again in the 2023-24 season.

He spent the earlier part of his managerial career at Casa Pia and Braga.
