Manchester United eyeing up move for £50m star who shone for national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup: Reports

Manchester United are reportedly keen on Netherlands international Crysencio Summerville, who impressed in his first outing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The West Ham United winger scored the second goal for the Oranje in their 2-2 draw against Japan.

It has been reported that Michael Carrick is looking to strengthen the left flank and is looking at Summerville. With West Ham United having suffered relegation last season, Summerville is one of the players who looks destined to leave.

Summerville impressed in a struggling West Ham side last season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 34 appearances across competitions. He has scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 56 appearances for the Hammers till date since his reported £25 million move from Leeds United in 2024.

The Dutchman also did pretty well during his time at Leeds United, where he made 89 appearances and contributed with 25 goals and 13 assists. The FIFA World Cup star is reportedly valued at £50 million and Manchester United have already made enquiries, as per Ornstein.

Manchester United star sheds light on 'awkward' call with England manager Thomas Tuchel that ended his FIFA World Cup dream

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has revealed how Thomas Tuchel informed him of his decision not to name him in England's FIFA World Cup squad. The 33-year-old has claimed that the England manager called the players he did not pick on FaceTime.

He said on Gary Lineker’s Rest is Football FIFA World Cup podcast:

“He FaceTimed everyone. It was quite an awkward call. I received a text saying: ‘Can I speak to you about 4pm?’ It is quite a unique way of doing it and it must be quite hard because he can see everyone’s reactions. I said straightaway I was really disappointed. I thought I did enough to be in the squad and thought I could have helped and had a part to play on and off the pitch."

The former Manchester United skipper added:

“He said he can’t give me an excuse but he had gone with the four lads who got him through the autumn. It was tough to take. I did think I would be in the squad after being selected for the March camp under him for the first time. I did really well in both games and then went back to Manchester United and finished the season really strongly.”

Harry Maguire was one of the big-name players Tuchel did not name in his final 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup. The likes of Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lewis Hall, Adam Wharton and Morgan Gibbs-White were all overlooked.

Maguire has won 66 caps for England over the years and did really well in major tournaments for the Three Lions. Former England manager Gareth Southgate was a big fan of the defender and he was almost ever-present under him.
