Liverpool have"made the most progress"in battle to sign"very talented"£86m star

Liverpool have “made the most progress” when it comes to signing RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, according to journalist Abdellah Boulma.

The Ivorian’s stock continues to rise, following a promising start to the 2026 World Cup, with the Reds seeing him as a leading option to replace Mohamed Salah.

Speaking to The Redmen TV, Boulma claimed that Liverpool still appear to be leading the race to snap up the £86.4m-rated Diomande this summer, but Paris Saint-Germain are still providing stern competition:

“Diomande remains under contract and has no intention of forcing a move. Leipzig would like to extend his deal and keep him for at least another season. That said, if a major offer arrives, the club would be open to discussions.

“Liverpool are, in my view, the club that have made the most progress so far. They have already established contact with Leipzig and have been working on the deal for some time. PSG, on the other hand, have not gone that far yet.

“Diomande is highly rated internally by PSG and remains near the top of their shortlist. However, without movement in the attacking department, Paris are unlikely to make a concrete move. Liverpool have been more proactive and are therefore ahead at this stage.

“My feeling is that the player is open to a new challenge and would like to discover something different. If a club meets Leipzig’s financial demands, a transfer is certainly possible. But as things stand today, nothing is close and there is still a long way to go.”

Yan Diomande should be Liverpool’s No.1 summer transfer target

Diomande showed in the Ivory Coast’s 1-0 win over Ecuador what a special talent he is, with his manager Emerse Fae describing him as a “very talented” player.

He has to be viewed as Liverpool’s priority ahead of the summer transfer window, with his lightning speed, quick feet and quality in the final third already looking elite.

The fact that Diomande is still only 19 years of age makes him even more exciting, with his peak years unlikely to arrive for a long time.

Liverpool would be signing a player with a world-class ceiling, and missing out on him to PSG or another club for that matter, would be a huge blow.
