Manchester United could miss out on signing Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers to Arsenal this summer.
The England international had a productive 2025/26 campaign with the Villans. He contributed 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side.
HandofArsenal, who exclusively broke the Cristian Mosquera story last year, has now revealed that Rogers has given preference to joining the English champions this summer.
The 23-year-old has respectfully communicated his desire to leave to Villa’s hierarchy. The attacker is sold on the Mikel Arteta project and Arsenal’s plans for him.
Meanwhile, United have also explored Rogers’ situation, with manager Michael Carrick being a big fan. As things stand, the player is holding out for the Gunners.
Man Utd poised to miss out on Rogers
United’s main priority for the summer remains bolstering the midfield. They have already agreed to land Atalanta’s Ederson for a package of around £39 million.
Talks are underway with West Ham United for Mateus Fernandes, too. Arsenal were keen on the Portuguese but have pulled out due to the £80m valuation.
United likewise hold an admiration for Rogers, which is not a surprise. Carrick managed him for a season at Middlesbrough and recently spoke highly of his qualities.
Rogers has improved leaps and bounds ever since. The Englishman can comfortably play on the left wing or in the number 10 role and would be a statement signing.
However, the final decision ultimately depends on the player. He appears determined to join the Gunners, and could get his wish if they meet Villa’s valuation for a deal.
The Daily Mail report that Villa could open negotiations at £80m, though we won’t be surprised if the Europa League holders demand £100-110m for the 23-year-old.
United have also been credited with an interest in Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali for some time, but they have now pulled out of the race, with Arsenal considered favourites to land him.
