While Arsenal have asked to remain informed should Brown’s situation change, attention has already shifted towards other targets. One player who remains firmly on the club’s radar is Sporting CP defender Ivan Fresneda, a footballer Arsenal have reportedly tracked for the past five years.
The long-standing interest underlines how highly the Spaniard is regarded internally. However, despite Arsenal’s admiration, a potential deal could prove complicated for several reasons.

Arsenal recently made contact regarding Nathaniel Brown but were informed that a move to Bayern Munich is considered all but certain. Although the club remain interested should circumstances change, recruitment staff have continued evaluating alternative defensive options.
Among those alternatives is Ivan Fresneda. The Sporting CP defender has featured prominently on Arsenal’s scouting lists for years and remains a player the club admire. His profile, age and experience make him an attractive option as Arsenal consider strengthening at right-back.
Fresneda’s name has resurfaced at an important moment in Arsenal’s summer planning, particularly as the club seeks players capable of contributing both immediately and over the long term.

While Arsenal’s interest is genuine, negotiations would not be straightforward (like it always is with Sporting), with Fresneda having €80 million release clause in his Sporting contract which places the Portuguese giants in a strong position coming on the table to negotiate his move.
Sporting are expected to take a firm stance regarding the defender’s future and are unlikely to lower their demands easily. Reports have also suggested there remains some frustration surrounding aspects of discussions between Arsenal and Sporting involving Viktor Gyökeres last summer.
That background could make negotiations more difficult if Arsenal decide to intensify their interest and any move would likely require patience and careful discussions between the clubs.
Ivan Fresneda injury recovery remains a key consideration

Another factor Arsenal must consider is the player’s fitness situation. Fresneda is currently recovering from a serious injury suffered in April, and the club will naturally want detailed assurances regarding his recovery before committing to a deal.
The outcome of his medical can therefore end up playing quite an important role for Arsenal to make a decision if they are going to move forward with a formal approach for him or not. While the injury has not removed him from the shortlist, it remains an important part of the assessment process.
Arsenal have shown in recent windows that they place significant emphasis on physical readiness when making transfer decisions, particularly when investing in players expected to contribute quickly.
We will see now if the Gunners do chose to move for him or look beyond him once again.
