Eric Cantona issues public apology on behalf of Kylian Mbappe

France have now taken to the stage at the 2026 World Cup, having won their first group game against Senegal, with Kylian Mbappe being the man of the hour.
Opening the scoring in the 66th minute, Mbappe linked up with a pinpoint throughball into the box, sweeping the ball across goal and beyond Edouard Mendy.
In the 82nd minute, Bradley Barcola opened his account breaking through with a little chip over the keeper, making it 2-0 for France.
The, in the fifth minute of extra time, Ibrahim Mbaye managed to pull a goal back for Senegal, however it was quickly overshadowed by a phenomenal goal from Kylian Mbappe.
Picking up a loose ball from Michael Olise, the Real Madrid striker entered the final third, and fired from long-range into the top left-hand corner, sealing a 3-1 win for France.
However, following the result, Nike Football have taken to social media with an apology from France and Manchester United legend, Eric Cantona.
In the social media video, Cantona says: “Hello. I want to make an apology on behalf of Kylian Mbappe.”
He continued: “Recently in a certain victory he only scored two goals. This level of dominance is inconceivable. And I cannot promise that it’s won’t happen again. Thank you.”
The skit, highlighting the impressive showing from Mbappe is well deserving of his World Cup performances, with Eric Cantona delivering the announcement in a way that only he could.
Now, Mbappe is only two goals of being the all time top goal scorer in World Cup history, having scored 14 at 27-years-old, only two off Miroslav Klose’s record of 16.
