Marcus Rashford is now set to return to Manchester United after his 2026 World Cup duties are over after a season on loan with Barcelona.

The LaLiga champions signed Rashford last summer, with the attacker thriving in Spain, scoring 14 goals and grabbing 14 assists in 49 names, helping them to retain their title.

While things looked set for him to remain in Hansi Flick’s side, Barcelona’s £70 million signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United seemed to end his hopes of a permanent move.

Despite being able to sign Rashford for £26 million this summer, Barca opted against the move, seeing Gordon as a cheaper option on wages, and with the former Magpie bringing more defensive prowess.

As such, Marcus Rashford is now heading back to Old Trafford, where he’ll be linking up with new manager Michael Carrick.

The England international ultimately looked to have closed his United career under Ruben Amorim after tensions grew at Carrington, with Rashford publicly announcing a need for a new challenge.

Manchester United’s plans to offload Marcus Rashford

The Telegraph have reported that despite the change in management, it is still United’s intention to offload Marcus Rashford, who will return on his £325,000 per week wage after The Red Devils secured Champions League football.

However, while Barcelona had the option to sign him for £26 million, the expiry of that offer has seen his release clause come back into effect at £40 million.

Now, after a successful season at Camp Nou, United are understood to only be entertaining offers for a permanent move, as they need Rashford off the books before they can sign other wide options.

The Red Devils have been looking at West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville in a potential double raid of The Hammers along with midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Unfortunately for United though, they will have to resolve the future of Marcus Rashford before further attacking recruitment can be done.
