Villa are unlikely to explore a move for Marcus Rashford this summer despite the forward’s future once more being in doubt.
As things stand, Rashford is due to rejoin Manchester United in pre-season after Barcelona opted not to trigger their option to buy the England international permanently.
Villa boss Unai Emery remains a huge fan of the 28-year-old after he spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan in the West Midlands.
But while Villa can offer Champions League football next season, their financial power is once again restricted by the need to comply with Uefa’s financial fair play rules.
Rashford’s current wages of £325,000-a-week also sits well outside the club’s wage structure.
And though the player himself enjoyed his time at Villa, his preference remains on a move abroad should he leave United permanently this summer.
Rashford scored 14 goals and set-up 14 more while on loan with Barcelona this season but they opted not to trigger a £26million option. It remains possible the Catalan club could try and negotiate a lower price with United, later in the summer.
Emery’s focus is on adding greater depth to his attack with a striker and two wide players desired. The manager would also like to add a right-back.
