Sandro Tonali already has Newcastle United transfer agreement & preferred destination - Arsenal …

Newcastle United transfers: Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for Sandro Tonali.

This week has seen Tottenham Hotspur ‘enter the race’ to sign the 26-year-old, who joined Newcastle from AC Milan for £52million back in 2023.

As previously revealed by The Gazette, Sandro Tonali and his representatives believe that Newcastle will allow the player to leave this summer should a suitable offer come in. Tonali was previously viewed as an untouchable asset at Newcastle.

But failing to qualify for Europe, paired with the destabilising transfer saga of Alexander Isak last summer, has changed the club's attitude. The club will still demand a significant transfer fee for the 26-year-old this summer, with a reported asking price in excess of £85million.

Premier League heavyweights linked with Sandro Tonali

Manchester City and Arsenal have also been linked with the midfielder, while Manchester United have distanced themselves from a deal after being made aware of the potential finances involved.

Newcastle are expecting bids to be made for the Italian international, though no formal approaches have taken place so far.

But the links involving Man City, Arsenal and Spurs could work in Newcastle’s favour by creating a bidding war and driving up Tonali’s price. The Spurs link in particular feels strange on face value given the club has finished 17th in successive Premier League seasons.

Sandro Tonali’s preferred destination

But The Gazette understands a London club would be the preferred destination for Tonali and his family should he leave Newcastle this summer. Tonali’s son, Leonardo, was born in the capital back in January.

It’s encouraging for Spurs, though rivals Arsenal were the first club seriously linked with Tonali at the end of the winter transfer window and can offer the player Champions League football on the back of a Premier League title win.

Tonali is under contract at Newcastle until 2029 with an option of a further year, putting the club in a strong position to demand a significant fee. The Magpies have already agreed one major sale this summer with Anthony Gordon joining Barcelona for £70million at the start of the transfer window and are not averse to another high-profile departure.

But it does raise the question: Should Tonali leave, how will he be replaced?
