Manchester United are monitoring the stars of the World Cup very closely according to transfer speculation.
The latest pair of names on the club's radar have both been shining in the tournament this summer and could potentially bring their talents to Old Trafford. Michael Carrick's summer transfer business has already seen the Red Devils linked with various squad positions. Yet one department that consistently dominates the headlines is midfield.
That appears to remain the manager's top priority during his inaugural summer in charge - both in central positions and in terms of a new winger, particularly on the left flank. Here's all the latest news from Old Trafford.

United target Summerville
Mateus Fernandes isn't the sole West Ham talent currently catching United's eye, reports the Mirror.
This comes after The Athletic revealed Netherlands winger Crysencio Summerville has also sparked interest among Old Trafford chiefs.
The Hammers reportedly must generate approximately £120million through player departures this summer following their Premier League demotion. Nevertheless, Summerville could potentially deliver nearly half that figure alone, given reports suggest the club would seek around £50m for his services.

That may well be achievable for United, especially after the 24-year-old maintained his upward momentum at the World Cup. He netted his maiden international goal in Sunday's 2-2 stalemate against Japan, having gradually developed into a prized asset at West Ham since arriving from Leeds nearly two years ago.
The east Londoners are positioned to double their investment from the £25m they paid out to secure Summerville in August 2024. United have deployed Matheus Cunha on the left sporadically, but would preferably like to utilise the Brazilian in a more central role.
United have already cautioned West Ham they will not be held hostage in their pursuit of Portugal midfielder Fernandes, who carries an £80m valuation. They may be inclined to adopt the same uncompromising approach in their bid to lure Summerville.
Nmecha added to midfield targets

Another goalscorer in North America already this summer, Germany's Felix Nmecha has also been suggested for a return to Manchester.
An extensive midfield search has now brought United to the doorstep of Borussia Dortmund, though Nmecha's services would not come cheaply.
After narrowly missing out on a hat-trick in the 7-1 thrashing of Curacao, Nmecha has certainly caught the attention of the football world. However, United seem to be well-informed about the player, given they were linked with a move for him back in February.
Nmecha, 25, is no stranger to Manchester, having previously been part of the academy at neighbouring City. Both he and his older brother Lukas moved to Wolfsburg in 2021, though dynamic midfielder Felix later transferred to Dortmund just two years after.

Lukas stayed at Wolfsburg until last year when he made the switch to Leeds, aiding the club in securing their Premier League status last season. This could be another factor making a return to the Manchester area appealing.
Sky Germany reported the Black and Yellows are likely to demand a fee around £61m for their midfielder. While this is not an insignificant sum, it seems to fall within United's budget.
One potential hurdle could come from Real Madrid, as new manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly also a fan of Nmecha's. The former United boss could potentially cause a headache for his old club this summer if he beats them to the promising German talent.
