Arsenal are no longer interested in signing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, according to El Chiringuito TV in Spain.
The Gunners are poised to strengthen their attacking department ahead of next season, and a marquee left winger could be prioritised.
The club have been regularly linked with a move for Alvarez in recent months, but they have now moved on from the World Cup winner.
El Chiringuito today claim that Arsenal are ‘no longer interested’ in the experienced striker.
They add that the Argentine, described as ‘world-class‘ by FIFA’s website, would only leave for Barcelona during the ongoing transfer window.
Arsenal have made the right decision on Alvarez
The Gunners currently have Kai Havertz, Victor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus as their centre-forwards.
Jesus could be on his way out with his contract expiring at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
Still, Arsenal could resist the prospect of landing another marquee striker after the impressive form of Gyokeres, who stepped up during the back end of last season. He finished with 21 goals.
Havertz spent much of 2025/26 on the sidelines with knee and hamstring issues, but the German grabbed the Premier League winning goal against Burnley and scored in the Champions League final.
Hence, the Gunners don’t need a possible upgrade upfront. It does not make sense to make a huge outlay of £129.5 million (Real Madrid’s recent bid) to pursue Alvarez’s signature this summer.
Furthermore, the player himself does not consider the Gunners as a priority. We recently said that the club should move on from the 26-year-old, and it appears they have formally ended their pursuit.
Mikel Arteta’s side should place their entire focus on strengthening the left wing.
The club are already making progress. They have opened talks with Club Brugge to secure the services of highly-rated Christos Tzolis, who made a staggering 51 goal contributions last season.
Arsenal are also working behind the scenes to land Morgan Rogers. They have received a boost in the pursuit with the Englishman wanting to join them ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Premier League holders could bring in both Tzolis and Rogers for Alvarez’s valuation. They could recoup part of the investment with the possible exits of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli.
