Barcelona have shown interest in Manchester City‘s Joško Gvardiol but a summer deal is almost impossible.
Last week, we relayed news of Manchester City blocking the La Liga winners’ attempts to sign the defender.
On Monday, Sport Witness covered claims from Croatia that the Citizens are confident of securing the Croatian’s renewal.
This means Barcelona will have to look at other options to improve their defence, and Manchester City’s Vitor Reis is on their list.
Barca make approach for Manchester City player
That’s according to Tuesday’s edition of Sport, who state the Catalan club are keeping an eye on the 20-year-old.
He spent this season on loan at Girona and is unlikely to continue after their relegation from La Liga.
Last month, Sport Witness relayed news Manchester City plans to reintegrate Vitor Reis won’t change with Pep Guardiola’s departure. However, that hasn’t stopped Barcelona from considering a move this summer.
Hansi Flick’s side have taken note of his performances for Girona, where he played 3,287 minutes from 38 matches.
They consider the 20-year-old a ‘perfect fit’ because of his pace, excellent ball control and other technical qualities.
Therefore, the Blaugrana have made initial contact to find out Manchester City’s plans for the Brazilian.
Barca sporting director Deco shares a good relationship with his Etihad counterpart, Hugo Viana. This helped them facilitate contact with Manchester City and the Spanish giants are working on the possibility of a loan with a purchase option.
There’s expectation for Enzo Maresca to replace Guardiola and his plan for the Brazilian is unclear. There won’t be any movements until the new manager arrives at the Etihad.
For now, Barca have made initial approach, taking advantage of Deco’s good ties with Viana. There could be movements only if Manchester City open the exit door.
Contract, value and agent info
Vitor Reis has a contract at Manchester City until 2029, and Transfermarkt now value him at €30m.
Agency P&P Sport Management, owned by agent Federico Pastorello, represent the South American.
