Alisson Becker’s future had been a major talking point leading up to the end of the 2025/26 season.
There had been intense speculation linking the Brazilian with a switch to Juventus, who had identified him as their priority goalkeeping target.
However, he now looks set to remain at Anfield after the club formally informed him that he remains a key part of their plans for 2026/27.
Reds fans were not entirely happy with his comments while on duty with Brazil last week.
The Brazilian admitted last week that he missed Liverpool games intentionally toward the end of last season to be fit for the World Cup:
“I’m 100%. Missing games for Liverpool was part of the plan to make sure I was ready for the World Cup,” he said.
“Everyone knows I spent a period out before the World Cup, but also very much because of arriving at the World Cup 100%. I said before: the important thing is how we arrive at the World Cup.”
But after signing a contract extension through to the end of 2026/27, it looks like that will be his last season at the club.
Gregg Evans of the Athletic has reported that in all likelihood, Alisson will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of next season:
“Liverpool want the Brazilian, who turns 34 in early October, around for the final year of his contract in 2026-27 and, despite widespread talk of an exit this summer, he is expected to stay.”
“When he does decide to leave Anfield, most likely at the end of next season when his deal expires, Alisson will depart as a club legend and Liverpool’s most talented ’keeper of the Premier League era.”
Part of the debate centres on his growing injury record. Over the past 2025/26 campaign Alisson has missed a notable chunk of football with muscle and hamstring problems, including a setback in March
Even so, Liverpool appear convinced that a fit Alisson remains one of the very best goalkeepers in the world and still gives them a level of assurance few others can match.
That is why, for now at least, the club is prepared to ride out the occasional injury scare rather than cash in on a legend and start over in goal.
