Bazoumana Toure: Why Liverpool are tracking “lightning fast” Ivory Coast winger

Among the wingers linked with Liverpool this summer has been the highly-rated, rapid Ivory Coast winger from the Bundesliga, Bazoumana Toure.

Yan Diomande may be the player everyone wants this summer – and for good reason – but Toure could be another option for Liverpool as they look to strengthen their attacking depth.

Earlier this year, the *Mail*‘s Lewis Steele reported that Liverpool have “kept a watching brief” on the 20-year-old, while Sky Germany said the Reds were “the first top English club to express interest.”

Player Profile: Bazoumana Toure

Since, the German outlet has claimed Toure is “on the verge” of an exit from Hoffenheim after they just missed out on Champions League qualification. He would cost an estimated £35 million.

With that in mind, we took a closer look at the left-winger through FotMob and got the opinion of Bundesliga commentator Dan O’Hagan.

Who is Bazoumana Toure?

While Amad Diallo may have stolen the headlines thanks to his late goal in the Ivory Coast’s 1-0 win over Ecuador, the Man United attacker didn’t actually make the starting XI.

Instead, coach Emerse Fae played Diomande on the right and Toure on the left. We didn’t see the best of Toure during his 56 minutes on the pitch, but there is still plenty for fans of his future club to be excited about.

The left-footer began his career at Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas, before moving to Hammarby in Sweden just after his 17th birthday.

Within a year, he had already attracted attention from the Bundesliga, leading to his signature for Hoffenheim where he scored five goals and provided 12 assists this season.

Across the 2025/26 campaign, in which Hoffenheim finished fifth, Toure’s crossing was a particular strength.

The 20-year-old’s 1.51 successful crosses per 90 minutes placed him in the top 5.1 percent of his positional peers in the Bundesliga for this statistic. He ranked similarly impressively for his crossing accuracy.

Toure’s dribbling was also a strong point – he successfully completed 1.86 dribbles per 90 (top 27 percent) – as was his pressing, something that Liverpool scouts must have noted.

He won 5.88 duels per 90, more than 77 percent of his positional peers, while also ranking in the top 10 percent of Bundesliga wingers for aerial duels won.

What the Bundesliga expert says

Judging a player based on statistics alone is not wise. Therefore, we spoke to a Bundesliga expert who gave us a greater insight into Toure:

“He prefers his left foot. He’s quick, he’s probably more direct than Diomande,” said commentator O’Hagan.

“He doesn’t quite have the trickery Diomande does, but he is still a very good technical footballer, very quick. I think he’s the league’s sixth fastest man.

“So, like Diomande, lightning fast and maybe more of a traditional winger than Diomande.”

O’Hagan added: “He’s got a really good football brain. In a year-and-a-half in Germany, he’s really gone from what was a kind of standing start to being a top winger in that league certainly.

“And yeah, he’d be a player who Liverpool could develop. He’s young enough to kind of work with and develop into the kind of player they want him to be.”

The next chance to see Toure in action comes as the Ivory Coast face Germany in Toronto, on Saturday at 9pm (BST).

Their final group game then sees them play against Curacao in Philadelphia, at 9pm on Thursday, June 25.
