Leeds United named as frontrunners to sign Southampton’s Shea Charles despite Everton ‘monitoring’
Leeds United are reportedly leading the race to sign midfielder Shea Charles from Southampton.
The 22-year-old is among the most coveted figures in the Championship having established himself as a key figure for the Saints.
Since returning from a successful season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in 2025, Charles has sent his stock soaring with his displays for both Southampton and the Northern Ireland national team.
Leeds have been linked with Charles on a number of occasions and a recent report suggested they are weighing up a move.

Leeds United ‘frontrunners’ in Shea Charles race
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds are the frontrunners to sign Charles following the opening of the summer transfer window.
Everton are said to be among those who have monitored the midfielder, and there is thought to be interest from overseas, but it is Leeds believed to be best-placed to strike a deal.
The former Manchester City prospect is reportedly valued at £20m, a fee most Premier League clubs should be able to afford. Southampton’s position has been weakened by their failure to seal promotion from the Championship, with their dream having been extinguished by their removal from the play-offs amid the ‘spygate’ saga.
Leeds supposedly see Charles as someone who fits the bill as an energetic and technically proficient operator, as well as someone who can play in various positions.

Leeds United’s midfield department
As far as central midfielders go, the Whites are well-stocked. Daniel Farke can call upon captain Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach, Ao Tanaka, Ilia Gruev and Sean Longstaff.
If Charles was brought on board, a move for one of the aforementioned figures would appear likely. There was talk of a potential move for Tanaka earlier this year before his return to the starting XI quelled speculation.
