Tottenham Hotspur have showed intent in the transfer market with another addition, this time on the women’s side of the club.

On the men’s front, Spurs have already been one of the Premier League’s busiest sides, bringing in now former Liverpool man Andy Robertson to shore up the left flank, while also adding defensive reinforcements in Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul Van Hecke to deepen their centre‑back options.

They are even being linked with a bold move for Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali, although face competition from the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

While those deals and rumours have dominated the transfer headlines, Spurs have made an addition on the women’s front by securing the signature of former Liverpool striker Kirsty Hanson from Aston Villa.

The Scotland international spent time in Liverpool’s development ranks earlier in her career. She made her senior debut in 2016 with Sheffield FC in WSL 2 on loan from Liverpool.

However, first-team opportunities were hard to come by, and she left for Manchester United having not made a senior appearance for LFCW.

After another two seasons with the Red Devils, in which she scored six WSL goals, she moved to Aston Villa on loan for the 2022/23 campaign, where she delivered 18 goal contributions (eight goals and 10 assists) in 28 outings and played a key role in securing the club’s best-ever league finish before making the switch permanent in the summer of 2023.

Hanson said of the move to Tottenham’s medial channels:

“I’m absolutely delighted, it’s an exciting time to be a part of this Club. I’m ready for a new challenge, and I’m always wanting to be better every single day. Martin (Ho), the Club, the staff, the players are at such an exciting point – and I want to be a part of that.”

Tottenham Hotspur women’s head coach Martin Ho said: “Kirsty is a player with proven quality in the WSL and someone who has consistently shown she can affect games at this level. She brings pace, energy, directness and real threat in the final third, but also the work ethic and intensity we want in our attacking players.”

“She played a lot of her football last season as a centre forward, while also having the ability to play wide, and that versatility is really important for us in how we want to attack.”

Hanson has also made 48 appearances for Scotland, finding the net six times.
