Andoni Iraola’s staff already replaced despite delay in Liverpool announcement

Liverpool are yet to announce Andoni Iraola‘s backroom staff, but those expected to join from Bournemouth have already been replaced by new coach Marco Rose.

Rose was confirmed as new Bournemouth head coach a week after Iraola announced his decision to leave at the end of the season.

The German met with his predecessor for a lengthy handover at the campaign’s conclusion, with Iraola then taking the job at Liverpool.

But while it has been almost a fortnight since the Spaniard was unveiled as head coach, Liverpool are yet to confirm his new backroom team.

Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper are expected to join as Iraola’s assistants along with analyst Tom Webber, but no announcement has been made yet.

While that has partly been due to talks over their release from Bournemouth, the reality is that they have already been replaced.

Speaking in his first interview with afcbTV, Rose confirmed that his assistants from RB Leipzig, Marco Kurth and Frank Geideck, would be joining him along with “an analysis guy.”

Kurth and Geideck will replace Elphick and Cooper, while Webber’s role has also been filled.

Like Liverpool, those appointments have not been announced by Bournemouth but that will be considered a formality while contracts are finalised.

Iraola’s long-serving fitness coach Pablo de la Torre is also set to arrive at the AXA Training Centre but his situation is removed from Elphick, Cooper and Webber as he is currently unattached.

Liverpool recently confirmed the departures of assistant coaches Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Sipke Hulshoff along with lead physical performance coach Ruben Peeters.

First-team tactical analyst Roderick van der Ham is also understood to have left following Arne Slot‘s sacking at the end of May.

Van Bronckhorst and Hulshoff have subsequently taken roles as Feyenoord head coach and assistant respectively, with the pair splitting from Slot to return to their former club in the Netherlands.

Slot’s next move is as yet unknown, with the 47-year-old already rejecting an offer from Fulham and believed to be spending his summer on holiday in Ibiza.
