Jerry Jones and the [Dallas Cowboys](https://www.sportingnews.com/uk/nfl/dallas-cowboys) chose not to offer wide receiver George Pickens a long-term extension, instead placing him on a one-year, $27.3 million franchise tag. He previously skipped voluntary workouts, and so there was much speculation about his future with the franchise.
However, Pickens proved many doubters wrong about his future with the Cowboys as he attended their first day of mandatory minicamp at The Star in Frisco on Tuesday. However, 6× Pro Bowler LeSean McCoy advised Pickens against playing on a franchise tag at all.
“You should not play on a franchise tag," [McCoy said](https://x.com/i/status/2067100038359380228) on the latest episode of the “Speakeasy” podcast. “There's no guarantee for you and none right. You gotta forfeit your deal that you can get through your guarantee.
“Don't play in a franchise tag. The truth is we are ballplayers. We have bills. We have family and we like money. Imagine having a whole year when he ain't making no money. You need that money.”
Pickens avoided fines in the process of attending the mini camp and has no plans to holdout. He also confirmed he would attend all mandatory team activities and play under the franchise tag this season. He also made it clear that his agent, David Mulugheta, influenced his decision-making to continue his run with Dallas.
After being traded from Pittsburgh to Dallas ahead of the 2025 season, Pickens has become a vital piece of the Cowboys' high-powered offense. He had a breakout year last season, setting career highs with 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns. So, it's a good thing for Jones and the Cowboys if they can keep him satisfied for another mighty season.
