Jorge Mendes forecasts massive bid for Portuguese star–Liverpool linked but yet to act

Liverpool linked Francisco Trincão

Liverpool linked Francisco Trincão

Liverpool continue to be named in Portugal as the club most strongly linked with Francisco Trincão. However, there is one detail worth noting: Sporting still haven’t received an offer from Anfield.

That claim comes from Correio da Manhã, who provide a fresh update on the winger’s future. They suggest the biggest development currently isn’t Liverpool’s interest itself. Instead, it is the confidence of Jorge Mendes.

According to the newspaper, the super-agent has assured both Trincão and Sporting that a major proposal will arrive before the end of the transfer window. The expectation is that the bid will come very close to the player’s €60m (£50.5m) release clause.

If it falls short, the report states the difference could be made up through bonuses and performance-related clauses.

Liverpool linked, but no bid yet

Liverpool have repeatedly been identified in Portuguese reports as Trincão’s most likely destination if he leaves Sporting this summer.

Recent stories have even claimed the Portugal international remains at the top of Liverpool’s shortlist. This is despite the expected managerial change from Arne Slot to Andoni Iraola.

Yet Correio da Manhã now make a point of stressing that Sporting have not received a proposal from the Reds.

That does not mean Liverpool’s interest has disappeared of course. If anything, the opposite has happened in recent weeks. Portuguese newspapers consistently place the Premier League side at the front of the queue.

Mendes expecting price to rise

The bigger talking point is Mendes’ apparent confidence that one eventually will. The agent is said to have guaranteed that a significant bid is coming. Moreover, there is a reason Sporting may not be rushing anything.

Trincão is currently with Portugal at the World Cup in the United States. There is growing belief in Lisbon that a strong tournament could increase his value even further.

Transfermarkt currently values the 26-year-old at €40m (£33.7m), but Correio da Manhã argue an impressive World Cup could push expectations much closer to the €60m (£50.5m) release clause.

That would represent another step in a remarkable revival. After difficult periods at Barcelona and Wolverhampton, Trincão has rebuilt his reputation at Sporting and established himself as one of the club’s most important players.

Since arriving in 2022, he has made 208 appearances, scored 47 goals and provided 45 assists. This season alone he contributed 13 goals and 15 assists while becoming Sporting’s most-used player.
