Marco Palestra’s future at Atalanta remains unclear but the player’s perception about Chelsea is becoming clear.
Earlier this week, the Italian press covered how the Blues view the Italian as a possible replacement for Marc Cucurella.
They made initial contact for him too, touching base with his entourage about a possible deal. Manchester City did the same but then it emerged that Palestra is keen on joining Inter Milan.
They have had an initial bid rejected and the wing-back is waiting for a renewed approach.
Now, more details about Chelsea’s approach are emerging.
Player has doubts about project
Corriere dello Sport report that if it were up to Palestra, he would already be an Inter player.
He has already made the choice and is willing to wait for an agreement between Inter and Atalanta.
The newspaper add details about Chelsea’s interest. The Blues approached his entourage to learn the 21-year-old’s intentions and plans for the future.
They were told that the wing-back will only join Inter. Beyond that, he harbours doubts about the project at Stamford Bridge. The Blues didn’t just see Palestra as a replacement for Cucurella but also as someone who can fill in for Malo Gusto.
They are alert to Manchester City’s interest in the Frenchman. There was belief at the London club that the Italian would fix two problems. But the La Dea talent doesn’t feel Chelsea is the best place to go to. They are also not offering European football, which is another drawback in the deal.
Blues should focus on Cambiaso
With all of that in mind, Chelsea should look to sign Andrea Cambiaso.
He would be much more accessible and cheaper than Palestra. Juventus’ failure to qualify for the Champions League can force them into his sale.
The Italy international can also offer versatility and like Palestra, he can operate further forward too. He is at the peak of his powers and wouldn’t reject a chance to move to the London club.
