Young Demi Akarakiri has done well for Everton‘s youth sides but he could now be preparing to depart Merseyside.
The 18-year-old midfielder has played 18 times for the Toffees’ U21s side. He played ten times for them in the 2025/26 campaign, also featuring 12 times for the U18s.
It was his second year with Everton, who brought him in from Arsenal back in 2024.
Now, it appears as if the talent is attracting attention from abroad. There is a strong possibility of the Toffees losing him just two years after signing him.
Cagliari keen
Today’s Corriere dello Sport reports Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini had teased the idea of a signing from England earlier this week. He kept the name a mystery, simply saying:
“A 19-year-old from the Premier League certainly isn’t coming to Italy to play for the Primavera, he wants to stay in the first team.”
At that point, several names emerged but the newspaper are sure the player in question is Everton’s Akarakiri.
Centotrentuno add more information, also appearing confident that the teenager is a target for the Sardinian side.
They note that discussions over a pro deal between the player’s entourage and Everton have dragged on. No final agreement has been reached, which has alerted Cagliari.
The Toffees approached the teenager with a renewal in early 2026, but it didn’t progress.
Cagliari have offered him the chance of regular minutes in Serie A. They have presented an attractive project, which relies on the development of young players from Serie A and abroad.
Besides, Michael Folorunsho is expected to return to Napoli in the summer. Akarakiri is seen as a replacement and can arrive for free.
Cagliari could be a great move
The last two seasons have shown that Cagliari can be relied upon for developing talents. Elia Caprile has grown since joining from Napoli. Adam Obert has also come leaps and bounds, with Marco Palestra enjoying his loan spell from Atalanta. Gianluca Gaetano has also impressed and can get a big move himself.
This should be seen as a promising sign by Akarakiri and his entourage. The club also have a fair amount of stability now. Fabio Pisacane has added a tactical identity and this helped them finish 14th in the table.
The teenager can use this newfound approach of theirs to get minutes in Serie A and use Cagliari as a launchpad for a bigger move.
