David Moyes will bring his side to Bolton on Saturday, July 25 (3 pm kick-off) for what will be the Whites’ third of five competitive friendlies in the summer schedule.
The tie will have special significance for Steven Schumacher, who came through the youth ranks at Goodison Park before setting off on his own professional career.
And the game will represent the first time that Wanderers have played in front of home supporters since gaining promotion to the Championship via the play-off final win at Wembley against Stockport County.
Wanderers have five games in their pre-season schedule, which starts in Slovakia after a week-long training camp and continues with friendlies back in the UK against Oldham, Everton, Fleetwood, and NAC Breda, after which they will play their opening game of the 2026/27 season in the Carabao Cup first round.
The first game of the Championship season will be played on the weekend of August 14-16.
The schedule in full: DAC 1904 Streda (away), Friday, July 17, (7 pm local), Dunajská Streda, Slovakia.
Oldham Athletic (away), Tuesday, July 21 (7 pm), Boundary Park
Everton (home), Saturday, July 25 (3 pm), Toughsheet Community Stadium
Fleetwood Town (away), Tuesday, July 28 (7 pm), Highbury Stadium
NAC Breda (home), Saturday, August 1 (3 pm), Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Before the pre-season schedule gets underway, Wanderers are hoping to add at least two more players to their squad.
Speculation continues over the Whites’ interest in Liverpool’s Luca Stephenson, the 22-year-old defender who has spent the last two seasons on loan in the Scottish Premiership with Dundee United.
Though there have been several claims that a deal is imminent, a £700,000 bid has been accepted, that the Reds want £1million, and that local rivals Blackburn Rovers could also be involved in the equation, there has been very little acknowledgment from Bolton’s end that the County Durham-born youngster is a player they are close to signing.
The need to strengthen Schumacher’s squad at right-back is obvious.
The release of Jordi Osei-Tutu – who has been linked with a move to Championship rivals Charlton Athletic – has left veteran defender Cyrus Christie as the only viable option from last year’s crop.
Wanderers are understood to be looking to strengthen their options in virtually every position on the pitch, and nowhere more so than up front, where competition for Sam Dalby and John McAtee is desperately needed.
It is believed an offer to bring Johnny Kenny back to the Toughsheet will be proposed but with plenty still to sort at Celtic, who are building towards a Champions League campaign, an answer is not expected quickly.
The player has also indicated that he would ideally look to prove himself once again under Martin O’Neill.
Speaking last month about his future at Celtic to the Daily Record, Kenny said: “No, I won't say it's make or break.
"At the moment, I just want to get back fit.
"And once I get back fit, I believe I can put myself in a great position to be available at Celtic come the summer.
"Who the manager is, we don't know.
"But all I can concentrate on now is getting fit and taking it from there."
