George Pickens settles one Cowboys question as Dak Prescott faces another

George Pickens entered mandatory minicamp with questions still surrounding his offseason situation. Those questions lingered because his recent absence from voluntary work left room for speculation.

That uncertainty faded once Pickens reported to the Cowboys' mandatory sessions this week. His arrival shifted attention away from contract talk and back toward his role in Dallas. As a result, the focus quickly moved to his preparation for a season carrying major expectations.

According to reports from minicamp, Pickens participated in individual work but did not take part in team drills. Even with those limitations, his presence carried significance because Dallas needs stability from one of its most productive offensive players. That importance grew after Pickens publicly downplayed concerns about his contract status.

“I want to bring a Super Bowl to a group of guys that never had that feeling,” Pickens said. “That’s really the most important part of me. I’m here to definitely help the team. The tag and all that, it’s football first.”

Those comments reinforced the message the Cowboys wanted entering the summer. That message gained additional support when head coach Brian Schottenheimer spoke positively about Pickens' approach. The coach's remarks suggested there is alignment between the player and the organization as training camp approaches.

The timing matters because Pickens remains a central piece of Dallas' passing attack. Last season, he caught 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. That production helped establish him as one of the offense's most reliable contributors. Because of that track record, any concern surrounding his availability naturally attracts attention.

While Pickens eased one concern, Dak Prescott was limited during minicamp because of a minor issue. Dallas is taking a cautious approach as training camp approaches.
