Ruben Amorim has now officially been appointed as the new manager of AC Milan, marking his return to management after leaving Manchester United.
The former Sporting CP boss left Old Trafford in January after a year and two months in the roll, with Michael Carrick being brought in to see the club through to the summer.
After helping The Red Devils secure a return to the Champions League, Carrick has been appointed as the next permanent manager at Old Trafford, while Amorim has been searching for a new club.
Now, the Portuguese manager is in the hot seat at the San Siro, but links are already emerging with his former side.
So, we take a look at three players who Ruben Amorim could be set to sign from Manchester United this summer.
Manuel Ugarte
First up is Manchester United’s unwanted midfielder, Manuel Ugarte.
The Uruguay international has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford after being signed by Erik ten Hag in 2024 from PSG.
As such, he’s one of several players that The Red Devils are looking to offload this summer to generate funds for their midfield signings like Ederson and the potential move for Mateus Fernandes.
Already, reports have emerged that United have in fact offered Ugarte to AC Milan, however the results of that are still unknown.
Amorim has already managed the midfielder twice in his career, once at Sporting and once at United, and while their partnership in Portugal went impressively well, the same couldn’t be said at Old Trafford.
However, time and time again, players and managers who have succeeded in Europe have failed in the Premier League, so a reunion in Milan could see the pair work well together once more.
Joshua Zirkzee
The next option is striker Joshua Zirkzee who has, much like Ugarte, failed to cement himself at Old Trafford.
He arrived in the same window as Ugarte, joining The Red Devils from Bologna, however Italy has always been a potential life-line for the former Netherlands international.
After his gametime at United dropped, so did his place in the Dutch national squad, with the attacker keen to reclaim it.
As such, a move to Serie A has always been a potential, given his high regard from his time at Bologna.
Since the move to Old Trafford, sides like AS Roma, Juventus and AC Milan have all been linked with Zirkzee, so now, with Amorim in the hot seat, he could use the links already in place to lure the striker to Italy.
Admittedly, Amorim was reluctant to use Zirkzee at United, however, it could be a similar situation with Ugarte, and as we’ve seen with Scott McTominay, whereby new scenery could rejuvinate the attacker.
Diogo Dalot
Diogo Dalot is our final option as the right-back was always highly regarded by Ruben Amorim, being seen as the solution to his routine wing-back problems.
Dalot was regularly called on to cover the left-wing-back roll when Patrick Dorgu was struggling to set himself up as the first-choice for the role.
As such, Dalot was played on the left, with Amad Diallo on the right as a preferred set up, with the Portuguese link between the pair holding strong.
However, if Amorim does look to reunite with Dalot, Milan will need to meet United’s demands, who will not want to see their first-choice right-back leave the club as they are still rebuilding.
