Brendan Sorsby’s Agent Says Most NFL Teams Have Already Reached Out To Him

There will be only one team who drafts QB Brendan Sorsby, but nearly all 32 are doing their homework. During a Wednesday interview, agent Ron Slavin says nearly the entire the NFL, 26 teams, have already reached out to inquire about the quarterback.

As transcribed by PFT’s Mike Florio, the focus – right now – is on football.

“The reality is most of the questions, you know, are, ‘What does he weigh in? What would he run?’” Slavin said on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan via Florio. “You know, it’s more football-related than the character stuff just because, again, they’re gonna do their digging on that side of it.”

As Slavin hints, teams are focused on the reason why Sorsby in this position in the first place: his gambling scandal that got him banned from the NCAA. Sorsby’s lawyers won an injunction to halt the ban but dropped their lawsuit Monday in order to proceed to the NFL’s Supplemental Draft. Presumably, the intense backlash of Sorsby trying to strong-arm his way back to Texas Tech was too much.

For the moment, teams are handling Sorsby like any other prospect. Understanding the football side. Sorsby will hold a Pro Day at a Texas high school next month, but teams are getting ahead of it by gathering pertinent measurements that make up the bones of a scouting report.

Teams will have the chance to meet with Sorsby and understand his past and side of the story. He’s cited a gambling addiction and checked into a rehab earlier this offseason shortly after the gambling allegations came to light.

It’s unclear if Pittsburgh is among the 26. On sheer math alone, they certainly could be. Earlier today, The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo noted the Steelers were doing their “homework” on Sorsby. That certainly could include a call to his agent.

However, that doesn’t guarantee the Steelers are strongly interested in him. Any team should have as much information as possible on a talented, albeit polarizing, prospect in order to make the best decision once the Supplemental Draft rolls around in roughly one month.
