Fabrizio Romano issues massive Liverpool blow: “It’s true, conversations are ongoing"

Alex Scott has been linked with Liverpool for several months but the links to the 22-year-old intensified following the appointment of Andoni Iraola as Liverpool head coach.

The Spaniard is preparing to take charge for his first season at Anfield after replacing Arne Slot at the end of the 2025-26 Premier League season, but it will take time for Iraola to get his ideas across to the Liverpool squad.

Several of the players were managed by Jurgen Klopp, but there has been a number of arrivals since the German left the club, which means it will take a period of adjustment for the 43-year-old coach to get the Reds back to playing high-intensity, high pressing football.

So, it stands to reason that Iraola will find the idea of recruiting one or two of his Bournemouth stars appealing, although the Cherries have placed high asking prices on their most talented stars.

Teenage winger Rayan and centre-forward Eli Junior Kroupi, for example, are both valued at around £70m, while Scott is said to be worth around £70m to Bournemouth.

Liverpool facing major transfer battle to sign Alex Scott with Arsenal making contact

Arsenal are the Premier League champions, and Mikel Arteta will be grateful to use that talking point in negotiations to sign the Gunners’ top transfer targets. Scott is a highly-rated midfielder, but his future is not yet certain.

“Alex Scott remains a player in the shortlist at Arsenal,” began Romano when reporting on hisYouTube channel. “One of the players they appreciate, as reported by The Athletic.

“It’s true, conversations are ongoing with the agents of the player, and also with Bournemouth to understand if there’s a possibility.

“Bournemouth are offering a new contract to Scott, they’re really pushing for the player to stay with a release clause.

“But Arsenal are considering the player, very talented, so one of the options on the list at Arsenal.”

He added: “For example, Arsenal are interested. They made some approaches to people close to the player.”

Signing Scott is not the be-all and end-all for Liverpool, but losing him to Arsenal specifically will be a blow as they already have terrific strength in depth and will be very confident next season after finally lifting the title.
