Chelsea Defender's Future Is 'Far From Certain' And He Could Follow Cucurella Out Of The Club - Report

Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto could leave Stamford Bridge before the end of the summer, according to reports.

The French international played 49 times in all competitions for the Blues last season, but The Sun claim his future at Stamford Bridge is “far from certain”.

Marc Cucurella has recently left for Real Madrid, and it looks like there is a decent chance that Gusto will follow him out the door.

The 22-year-old is currently at the World Cup, so no immediate decision on his future is expected, but it seems a sale is very much on the cards.

Which club could Gusto join?

Reports in the French media last week suggested that Manchester City did make an enquiry for the defender, and it appears there was a chance of him linking up with his former manager Enzo Maresca.

However, The Sun report that the Cityzens have “distanced themselves” from making an approach for Gusto. They were also linked with teammate Enzo Fernandez before backing off.

Whether that is related to the ongoing talks between the two clubs over compensation for Maresca, it is not known. For now, though, there doesn’t seem to be a clear favourite for Gusto’s signature.

Chelsea have been looking at two Italian right-backs

It has been claimed by multiple sources that the Blues hold an interest in Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso. The 26-year-old has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Cucurella, but he is two-footed and can play on both flanks. He could just as easily take Gusto’s place in the first-team squad.

Reports in Italy have also suggested that Xabi Alonso’s side have made contact with the agents of Marco Palestra. You can read more about that here, but that interest would raise further doubts about Gusto’s future. It is definitely a situation to keep a close eye on.
