Arsenal hold ‘conversations’ with £60m Liverpool target as Aston Villa prepare to ‘spend big’…

A round-up of the latest Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Hull City and more.

Welcome to our latest round-up of some of the biggest (and sometimes wildest) new Premier League transfer rumours which you might have missed over the past 24 hours – and we start today with a story involving Arsenal, Liverpool, and a young star both teams seem keen to sign.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal could be stealing ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Alex Scott, with the Gunners said to be “hurrying” to snap up the 22-year-old Bournemouth midfielder.

Scott is said to be right at the top of Liverpool’s shortlist alongside Adam Wharton, but they could be “blindsided” by Arsenal, with the article claiming that they have already held “conversations” with the player’s representatives as they work to get a deal done quickly.

Bournemouth, for their part, are still hoping to tie Scott down to a new contract which would apparently include a £75m release clause – should he decline to accept the Semenyo-style offer, the Cherries will apparently accept bids of around £60m. It doesn’t sound like a formal offer has been made just yet, but it’s implied that it won’t be long.

The 3AM Verdict: We wouldn’t rule out Scott signing a new contract given Bournemouth’s recent success and the likely inclusion of a release clause –Antoine Semenyo penned a similar deal before moving to Manchester City, after all. As for whether Arsenal will beat Liverpool to the punch if he does leave, we don’t think there’s any evidence that either side is ahead in the bidding just yet. Arsenal may well have had a few chats with Scott’s agents, but we imagine Liverpool will have done the same.

Aston Villa ‘ready to spend big’ on Manchester United star

Over to a story from Sports Boom now – they allege that Aston Villa are “ready to spend big” to secure the permanent signing of Marcus Rashford after the apparent collapse of his proposed move to Barcelona.

Unai Emery apparently sees Rashford, who spent six months on loan at Villa Park during the 2023/24 season, as “one of his leading targets.” There’s no word on whether the England forward is keen on the idea of a reunion, but it is said that he still looks “likely to leave” even though Barcelona chose not to exercise their option on him after his successful spell in Spain.

There’s no discussion of the finances involved beyond a willingness to throw some cash at Rashford, but other reports have suggested that there is a £40m release clause in his contract which Aston Villa could activate. His salary of £325,000 per week could be a bigger sticking point.

The 3AM Verdict: In their recent reporting on Manchester United’sinterest in Crysencio Summerville, The Athletic suggested that Rashford was only interested in an overseas move and that he would rather stay at Old Trafford than join another Premier League side – and clearly both stories can’t be right. We suspect that Rashford’s situation won’t be sorted quickly, whatever the outcome.

New boys Hull eyeing big double deal

Let’s finish our latest transfer rumour round-up with a story for fans of newly-promoted Hull City: According to Sport Witness, the Tigers are “keen” to strike a double deal with Galatasaray to sign both Victor Nelsson and Roland Sallai.

Apparently Danish international centre-back Nelsson would set Hull back around €10m (£8.6m), while Hungarian right-back Sallai would be available for something in the region of €15m (£13m). Galatasaray are said to be “willing to sell” both with Hull apparently “leading the pursuit.”

It’s not clear what kind of competition they might face for the 27-year-old Nelsson, who spent last season on loan with Hellas Verona, but it’s noted that Fulham have showed interest in Sallai as well. In any case, Hull have “initiated” talks to land both players, although it’s not clear how advanced the negotiations might be.

The 3AM Verdict: These both sound like solid signings on paper and both have plenty of experience at the highest level – but what’s not clear is how many other clubs might be making enquiries of their own. Without that information, it’s hard to say how likely it is that Hull land both of their targets.
