George Pickens explains why he attended Cowboys' minicamp despite contract dispute

Money has to be one of the biggest motivators for a holdout in the NFL but there are greater considerations that can usurp it. For George Pickens, he could have very well not attended the Dallas Cowboys minicamp led by Coach Brian Schottenheimer. But, he is itching to have better team chemistry due to a larger goal. It's all about winning a Super Bowl alongside Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in the coming season.

Pickens unveils Super Bowl reason for stopping Cowboys holdout

George Pickens showed up for the Cowboys' minicamp on June 15. While he was advised by agent David Mulugheta to hold out for a bit, eventually both of them changed their minds. This is why Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb along with the rest of the Cowboys offense saw their receiver catch passes at The Star.

A bunch of Cowboys fans speculate that fines were coming Pickens' way which is why he chose to practice. Apparently, this was not the case. Pickens just wanted to reunite with his teammates and craft better chemistry in the three-day minicamp so that they'll be able to win the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium, via Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News.

"I’m here now. Like I say, that’s always their opinion. I don’t really criticize what they say or what they do. I just feel like that’s the opinion that they have and that’s all I can really say," Pickens declared. "Personally, what’s important to me is winning,” he said. “Like I said from the beginning, I always want to bring a Super Bowl to a group of guys that never had that feeling. So that’s really the most important part to me. Everything else is what they can throw."

Pickens was only able to get a one-year franchise tag worth $27.3 million from Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, just hours before the 2026 NFL Draft. He obviously expects way more than this after recording career-highs with 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards. and nine receiving touchdowns for the Cowboys.

Prescott and the Cowboys offense have a winner in their hands through Pickens. The receiver wont the College Football Playoff in 2022 with the Georgia Bulldogs and continue to develop into a contending weapon for Coach Schottenheimer's offense. They would be remiss not to sign someone who did not think of money first over finally getting a Super Bowl win after 30 years.
