Liverpool has hijacked Newcastle's move to sign the Osasuna winger Victor Munoz in a deal worth around $46 million (£35 million).
The 22-year-old Spanish winger was expected to move to the North East, but the Reds appear to have jumped in. In a story broken by Fabrizio Romano, the player has a release clause, which has been activated.
Munoz is currently with the Spanish national team at the World Cup. He was an unused substitute against Cape Verde in the opening game for Luis de la Fuente's team. A right-footed left winger, he scored six goals in 34 La Liga games last term.
Playing for Real Madrid previously, it is suggested that Los Blancos will be due half of the transfer fee because of the sell-on clause that was negotiated when he was sold.
Liverpool is in need of more quality in wide areas having seen Mohamed Salah depart. Federico Chiesa played a relatively minor role under Arne Slot.
Munoz is a strong dribbler with a creative flair. Though his output will need to improve, he has been earmarked as an exciting talent for the future in Spain.

Andoni Iraola took over as head coach at Liverpool a couple of weeks ago. Munoz could become the Spaniard's first signing at Anfield.
"For me, it's much easier to continue in the Premier League in terms of knowing the squad," Iraola said when he arrived.
"We've analyzed Liverpool a lot — possible weaknesses, the strengths. I think we have a very good squad.
"I think there is still work to do, like normally in every club in this moment of the season. But right now, for me the thing is to value especially the players that we have right now in the squad.

"For me, and I will tell them, [they] are all new signings. For me, you are all new signings and I think we have a lot of quality in our squad, and [I'm] really looking forward to working with them.
"I only had, I think, Milos in the squad before — I know a couple, I've been talking to a couple before — but it will be lovely also to play again with Milos, try to improve him, try to help him in his development. Yeah, definitely looking forward to it."
Liverpool will learn its fixture list for the new season later this week. Around a week after the World Cup final, it will head to the US for a pre-season tour.
